Dioctyl phthalate is an important general-purpose plasticizer primarily used in the processing of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin; it is also utilized in the processing of polymers such as chemical fiber resins, acetate resins, ABS resins, and rubber, as well as in the production of paints, dyes, and dispersing agents.

Product Usage

DOP is a general-purpose plasticizer primarily used in the processing of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resins; it is also utilized in the processing of polymers such as cellulose resins, acetate resins, ABS resins, and rubber, as well as in the manufacture of paints, dyes, and dispersing agents. PVC plasticized with DOP is used to produce artificial leather, agricultural films, packaging materials, cables, and more.

It serves as an organic solvent and a stationary phase for gas chromatography.

It is the most widely used plasticizer in industry. With the exception of cellulose acetate and polyvinyl acetate, it exhibits excellent compatibility with the vast majority of synthetic resins and rubbers used industrially. It offers a favorable balance of properties, including good blending characteristics, high plasticizing efficiency, low volatility, good low-temperature flexibility, resistance to water extraction, superior electrical properties, and good heat and weather resistance.

In HVAC systems, it is used to test the filtration efficiency of high-efficiency filters. Since 0.3 μm (micrometers) is the particle size with the highest penetration rate for high-efficiency filters, DOP is employed to measure their filtration efficiency.
