Calcium Hydroxide

Calcium hydroxide is an inorganic base compound with the chemical formula Ca(OH)2 and a molecular weight of 74.09. It is a white powdered solid at room temperature, with a density of approximately 2.24g/cm3. It is sparingly soluble in water (1.73g/L at 20℃), insoluble in alcohol, soluble in glycerol and acids, and releases a large amount of heat when dissolved in acids. The pH of a saturated aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide is 12.4

Product Usage

Calcium hydroxide can be produced by reacting calcium oxide with water in a carbon dioxide-free environment, or by double decomposition reaction between calcium salts (such as calcium nitrate) and strong alkalis (such as potassium hydroxide) in a carbon dioxide-free environment, followed by filtration and drying. Calcium hydroxide can be used to manufacture cement, furnace linings, and as a binding material in the construction industry; as a flux in the metallurgical industry; in industrial manufacturing for sugar production, leather tanning, and glass manufacturing; in the food industry as an acidity regulator, and for soaking fruits and vegetables in lime water to maintain their crispness; and in the pharmaceutical industry to inhibit bacterial growth.
